I started with my original letter 'T' to use as a test o see if i could get this to work well.
I used the grids and rulers to ensure that all the strokes i was making was an even space around.
I did this around the full letter, making sure i used the same angles etc...
I found that this was easier for me when i copied and duplicated some strokes to make sure that the angle was perfectly the same.
'T'
The first letter took quite a while to make as i have been getting my head around it properly. How to figure out accurate angles and measurements.
I experimented with different styles of my finished letter. I looked at what a silhouetted version would look like. This seemed to work better than just the outline. It was more legible, solid and bold and much like the original, which is a better representation of the word 'STRETCH'.
When i took away the original letterform that i based my type off and left just the stretched 3D bottom half, i feel that this added another dimension to the type. The letter is still clearly legible but i feel this was it works much more successfully. It brings the background more into the letterform and also works well with the contrast of black and white. Simple and effective.
