Alphabet Soup - Illustrator Workshop - Starting Point

I started by looking at the previous letters created and making some design sheets of a few idea from this to see what would work best...

I then moved into digitally recreated my ideas...

I knew that the original typeface that my handcrafted letter was 'Arial Black' so i thought i could use this as a starting point in illustrator to get my angles and everything right when creating the type.

To do this, i scanned in my original handcrafted letterform then played around the the perspective and angle of the Arial black typeface until i got the exact angle that i had created my original on. I will then work with each letter to get the outline and the 3D elements underneath.

My final typeface will hopefully look something like the top image compositionally, but obviously with my own created type on the same angle.
