OUGD503 - Responsive - It's Nice That

The Presentation

The final presentation Boards for the 'It's Nice That' submisson.

Reponsive - Its Nice That - Advertisement/Promotion

____Advertisements

For larger scale advertisements, such as billboards and bus stop posters, I felt that a clean simple look of the Iphone displaying the app would be appropriate. I tried to keep the same colours as the background to help the advert stand out and to also keep with the consistent theme of the business.

____In Context

I decided to mock these up in context using an appropriate image I found on the internet of a bus stop.I feel these advertisements would be appropriate for larger scale such as this, but as the business is a medium small business, they may not have the funds for this level of advertising, so I decided to look at how it could be promoted in universities to the target audience...

____Promotional Posters

I came up with a few more abstract ideas than the original advertisements that could possibly work for a younger more creative student target audience. These are very clean, simple designs, but amongst the busy walls of university, I think they would easily stand out above everything else.

____In Context

I mocked some of the ideas up using this image of a frame I found on the internet. This just gives a better idea of how the posters might look displayed in an art college or at a certain creative event. These are more about raising the profile of 'It's Nice That' focussing less on the app, but the text also has links and info about the app when read close.

Responsive - It's Nice That - Interactive Application Mock-Up

 ____Icon

For the icon, i wanted to keep it really simple. I used the icon that 'It's Nice That' uses throughout their whole online platforms such as their website, Facebook and Twitter in order to keep this consistant. This will not only make sure that the app fits in seamlessly with the business but also fit well within the Iphone (or Android) set of icons whilst also being instantly recognisable.

____Landing Page

This is the landing page for the application. I kept it clean cut using these laid out boxes as the buttons to the different elements of the app. I took certain colours from the 'It's Nice That' website, then mixed them with other colours that i felt were not only relevant to the company, but also created a nice balance across the screen together as well as working well together and representing the different areas of collective art and design.

____Things

Things is a section of the 'It's Nice That' website which I feel is particularly interesting to students and the contemporary art and design scene. This section offers a collection of 'things' each month that is on trend. This normally includes, magazines, zines, publications, prints, clothing and events and is updated regularly.

I wanted to keep the look consistant throughout the whole application so decided to use the same layout for every sub-page within the app, but each tittle would remain in the same place as the home page.  The sections would be constantly updated and you can click through the posts which would take you onto some information you can read about the 'things' of the week as well as more photographs of the products. You can see more clearly in the mock-ups how this would work.

____Features

Features is again taken primarily from the website but condensed into app form. the sections will be updated on a regular business but keep the same shape with the larger sections being taken by the more popular articles. This will keep users updated on innovative art and design from around the world on a day-to-day basis.

____Bookshelf

The bookshelf section is where famous artists and creatives show and tell their personal bookshelves. This is informative to let the users know what books are out there to inspire and also is a bit of fun to look into a certain part of an artists life, through their bookshelf.

This, again, will take the same layout. When you hover (scroll) over the articles, the images will turn from black and white to colour in a 'rollover image' style.

____Student of the Week

Another relevant section that would be included is the 'Student of the Week' feature. This will be frequently updated anf feature work from inspiring students from across the world. This will encourage other students by seeing what other students are doing outside of their own studio.

____Opinion

Opinion is the section where the audience (primarily students) can have their say. There will be topics that are updated regularly that students can get involved with, opening more creative and intellectual debates across the world of art on a much younger basis.

Reponsive - It's Nice That - D&AD Brief

I decided to do the brief to Promote 'It's Nice That' to students as I'm currently a student and am already really interested in It's Nice That. I use it on a regular basis to source inspiration so I felt that it would be appropriate for me to work with. Here's the official brief...

Background

It’s Nice That is a publishing platform founded in 2007 by a student at Brighton University. Devised to champion creativity across the art and design world, It’s Nice That places emerging practitioners and famous names side-by-side.

It is eclectic and meritocratic in its choices – showcasing exciting and original work across graphic design, illustration, art, photography and more.

It’s Nice That exists in three platforms:

• Online – The website is updated nine times a day, and attracts 300,000 unique users a month.

• Print – The biannual magazine presents in-depth interviews and features, with a circulation figure of 10,000 copies per year.

• Events – The events programme includes conferences, workshops, talks and exhibitions, attended by anywhere from 15 to 500 guests.

Creative Challenge

It’s Nice That’s audience has developed dramatically over the past few years – reaching everyone from freshers to creative directors. However, students have always been an integral part of the organisation’s DNA, and It’s Nice That now want new and exciting ways to stay engaged with their original audience.

It could be a poster campaign, a publication, an event, an app, or something so brilliant that no one has thought of it yet. How can they spread their commitment to showcasing great work in an information overloaded university world?

Considerations

• Be ambitious, but mindful that It’s Nice That is a small to medium business (SME). Make sure your response is reflective of the kind of budgets a business of this size can access.

• Consider their tone of voice. Any idea that you have should fit in seamlessly with their existing identity.

• Consider how you can connect It’s Nice That with a huge student population – both those who are aware of It’s Nice That, and those that are yet to discover it.

Target Audience

Students studying on creative courses, or those studying other course disciplines but who are also culturally engaged.

Mandatories

Whatever your idea, your response should showcase your craft – whether that’s illustration, typography, photography, animation or film-making.
