Today, we met up again to discuss which design we would carry on further into the layouts for the packaging. We also decided on a net, which Chris had been experimenting with previously through mock-ups. We decided to go for the net with the hole cut through, but without the hole.
It also needed to be a little bit longer than the template so I had to do some modifications before moving forward. I simple did this by stretching the middle section to the correct dimensions (which was 13 cm) and keeping all the tabs the same length. This give me what I needed and proved to be correct when I printed out and built a mock up which you can see below.
From a design point of view, we decided to go for one of my designs which we both agreed would be the most succesful. It is probably one which is the most minimalist, with large sections of colour and modernist swiss type, but this helps get the message across most successfully.
The pt size of the type on the main body copy of the packaging was only 5pt, which we feared might be too small. This is why we printed the mock up to check how this looked. We knew that type is small on other perfume bottles but wasn't sure how small we could go without it becoming illegible or unreadable.
Mock Up
The Mock up Helped us solve any Type & Layout issues that could be a problem before designing the finalised fragrance boxes.
This Type is fine and readable from a good distance. Logo stands out and Hierarchy is in correct order.
The 'Eau De Parfum' type is a little bit too small. Needs to be increased by a pt size or 2.
This 5pt Type is a little too small too. Needs to be Increased to around 6/7 or even 8pt. The barcode however, works particularly well, especially around the corner of the box. Layout is fine. Works well and is easy to read.
I need to add colour around the back of the box. This will be easier enough but will create more visual impact and bring the whole design wrap on the box together.
