Design Production - Mutton Quad - Laser Cutting Experiments

I decided to experiment further with the laser cutting process. I felt that it could enhance the look of my clipboard if I was to introduce a cut-out or etching to the wood. This could tie in the clean design aesthetic of the brand with the homely feel of the wood and interior.

1st Idea - MDF Pattern

I created this pattern out of the logo, As I felt that this could be applied to the back of clipboard instead of just having the logo. I then used the laser-cutting software to cut out the A5 sized piece of wood and the engrave the pattern across the whole body of the wood...

2nd Idea - MDF Central Logo

My second idea was to simply engrave the logo centrally at the very bottom of the wood. This could also be applied to the back of the clipboard where it will be visible when held up by a waiter/ess. I tried this with two attempts; One was a raster and one was engrave. As you can see form the images below the engrave worked much better. It give a deeper, cleaner cut...

3rd Experiment - Plastic Central Logo

I also thought I would see how the logo would appear on some clear plastic. This provided much cleaner that the wood, but didn't really fit in with the brand. I'm not sure where I could apply it too, but it works well none the less...

If I was to develop these further, I would have to maybe use a different type of wood. I particularly like the patterned logo and feel that this could possibly be applied to the back of my clipboard. I could even work into the existing wood. I would have to stain it and sand down the edges, maybe add a little bit more texture.
