I decided to print out the 5 books that I created as best that I could within price range. This meant that I had to use standard a4 paper in the laser-jet printers for the insides of the book. I felt that this would at least be enough to show the content in physical form, as close to how I would want it as possible.
I used a coloured stock for the front of each booklet which I also embossed with the title of the book. This left a very subtle mark which is what I wanted. This way, now you have to open the book to reveal the title which is in the exact same place as the embossed cove on the next inside page.
I think the coloured stock works as a set as they level down like a colour gradient. This also relates to points raised in the book, colour maps.
I'm fairly pleased with these results without spending ridiculous amounts of money, I just now need to bind the books which i plan to do with a needle and thread saddle stitch down the spine of each. I'll use white thread which will colour co-ordinate with the packaging without effecting the bright colours of the book spines. Another idea is to try and find separate coloured thread which will match each booklet colour. This may word better if it's achievable.
____Pacakging
The books fit perfectly in the packaging, and i'm please with how they stand out in colour, leaving the packaging quite plain and minimalist as a backdrop for the full colour booklets.
The embossed effect worked better than I first expected it would. With no ink used on the cover and book covers, I think this emphasises the use of colour and stock, which is what I had originally had planned.
____Booklets
The booklets work nicely as set. The order is determined by the colour spectrum from red down to blue.
Each colour represents a different section of print. The sections are ;
Process, Finish, Colour, Artwork and Format.
____Content
The full colour front cover opens to reveal the title of the book on the inside, in this case 'Artwork'.
There is a mix of full colour photographic imagery and my own illustrations in order to get the message across where nessacery.
The layout of the content is consistent throughout, obviously alternating colours for each separate booklet. I tried to be quite contemporary with the layout in order to appeal to a younger creative audience such as designers of my age. This was a fun project because essentially, the print manuel is for myself.
