Packaging
Pueblo 35g Tobacco Pouch
I really like the native elements of this design for tobacco company Pueblo. The colour scheme works really well with the pastel yellows and blues around the edges and of course the traditional native patterns in the logo and the band across is what really sells it. I actually bought this tobacco in Spain just because of the packaging so it just shows that good design makes sales.
American Spirit Cigarette Packet
Again, another native related cigarette company American Spirit. Again, mainly sold to me on the basis of the packaging. I love the red circle logo and the bright light blur colour packet. There is also little touched on the packet which make it like the logo of the bird on the paper seam which you have to break in order to get into the packet.
Apple Head Candy Packet
This is some packaging for an American candy called 'Applehead'. This is not really my style of design but I really appreciate it anyway. The illustrations and bright green colour emphasises the sourness of the candy and also fits well with the child-like theme. I also appreciate the fact that it looks kind of old school, but I think this is mainly because it's American.
Bottle Green Elderflower Cordial Bottle
Got this miniature bottle of elderflower cordial when I bought a bottle of Gin at the weekend and really fell for the design. I like the placement of the illustration of the flower in accordance to the typeface and how the stem flows through the type. The typeface itself is really sleek and modern and fits well with the 'classy' branding of the product. I also like how the 'O' and the 'G' meet up together in the logo to form three circle like shapes crossing the stem of the flower.
Cornwall Bakehouse Packaging
Picked this up when buying a pasty the other day and really liked the packaging. I like how the bold red and green colours pop on the worn brown stock of the paper bag. I also like the logo for the company - It works well in those colours and looks a lot more contemporary then a standard 'Greggs' bag. The colours almost look screen-printed which is what I like the most about this particular piece of packaging.
Branding
Warehouse Project Logo/Flyer
I really liked this flyer which I picked up for 'The Warehouse Project' in Manchester. It really reminds me of the design that one of my favourite designers Peter Saville was knocking up around the days of The Hacienda in Manchester. I definitely think that the influence has been drawn from there. I liked the glossy foiling over the logo, and the simple lines and illustration used to create the make-up of the logo. The all black look makes the club-night look more 'classy' than a standard flyer you would pick up in the street. The addition of the coloured sticked on the right makes your more inclined to peel in open and see whats inside. Great piece of branding behind the whole night to make it stand out above the rest.
Cheap Monday Jeans Label
This is a tag that I pulled of some jeans that I bought. Again, what I really like about this is the black glossy print onto the cardboard stock. This really works well and makes the labels stand out in store. The whole cheap monday's logo is current and very sellable in todays fashion scene. The logo is also sewn onto a patch at the back of the jeans which again emphasises the whole brand and gets the logo out onto the streets. The logo itself is very current with the skull and upside down cross.
Fred Perry Emblem Badge
One of my favourite brands and logos of all time is Fred Perry. I like the simpleness of the laurel wreath logo and the fact that it is so recognisable all around the world. The brand 'Fred Perry' has taken the wreath logo which meant 'champion' and made it their own, making them the first thing to be associated with it.
Magma Book Shop Business Card
Magma is one of my favourite book shops which I like to visit when i'm in Manchester. It specialises in design books and magazines. The branding is simple, but excellent in my opinion. the logo stands out with the weight of the type increasing down the brand name and turning into capitals at the end. Simple concept that works and the red and white double sided business card helps the brand stand out, whist still maintaining a very professional 'classy' look.
Carhartt Logo Sticker
I used to love the Carhartt brand, but hated the logo. I thought that it looked messy and clumsy and didn't understand why they had the bend in the 'h'. Anyway, over the past year or so, it's started to really grow on me and although the typeface looks quite recognisable, it makes the brand stand out from everything else that ay use a similar looking typeface.
Hyde Park Picture House Branding
This booklet which i picked up from Hyde Park Picture House shows the branding of the cinema. I really like the colour scheme in particular of this one. It used yellow, black and white throughout the logo and branding of itself which makes it instantly recognisable on things like posters, flyers and leaflets. The logo itself is quite simple but bold, clear and serves it's purpose. The design of the booklets and posters continues the same consistent contemporary theme throughout and this really works!
Mallorca Rocks Logo/Receipt
The Ibiza/Mallorca Rocks logo and brand is recognisable everywhere now and this is partly due to the simpleness of it's logo. I don't particularly like the logo, but I do appreciate the target audience and how the simple shape of a 'plectrum' can work as a logo on such a massive scale. Another good point about this brand is that the logo is black and white but can be printed everywhere - from massive billboard signs to simple two-tone things like the receipt that I have collected here.
