100 Things // Research & Collect // Starting Point

From the research i had previously done in the workshop, i thought it would only be a sensible idea for me to follow the root of what i had already been looking at. The image above shows the 5 main general themes that i had derived from my previous project.

I wanted to move far away from the last project which was engagement rings so marriage was probably the only one that i had cancelled out. After looking at the other themes, i realised that they all link in quite well. I didn't really want to focus entirely on religion because it is always quite a touchy subject even though to me it really is fascinating. however, with my other themes and the general subject i would naturally be touching on it when researching different things which is interesting.

That leaves me with CULTURE, TRADITION, FORGIVENESS, RELIGION?

Linking themes with subjects. Using these three columns, i had written my 10 chosen themes down the middle and then thought of a broader theme to go before it which would make it a specific subject and also an even more specific subject to the right of it to make it a broad theme. This just shows that any one thing could wither be a specific subject or a really broad theme depending on the research you do. This is the whole idea of the project, to keep researching new things to focus on a broad theme down to a specific subject...

From this, i then did more research on some of the themes, coming up with 10 words, 10, facts, 10 objects and 10 people related to the subject. This just gave me a starting point to see what would be the best route for me to take in this project...

RELIGION...

FORGIVENESS...

From this, as i didn't want to focus on marriage and religion, i decided to go more for the culture side of things. This sort of links in all the themes of tradition, religion, forgiveness and marriage.

Cults and Tribes came up a few times when researching, and this is something i have generally been interested in for a long time now, watching many documentaries and visiting different cultures such as Africa and India to see the different ways that people live.

I'l be looking at different cultures, ways of life but also traditions in cults, tribes such as body piercings, tattoos, ancient rituals and that whole side of it.
