Headlines should be in the largest boldest type.
Dropping down a weight for the subtitle demonstrates the sub division.
Body copy can be set smaller to be more readable legible in larger quantities.
If using one type wight works, then use it!
Quick Type (Optional Task)
People interact with type. Designers interact with it. But how often do we really look at it?
Select a font. A font you like. Select a Character. Make it between 200 - 500 pt size on screen.
draw a grid above it, into squares. Delete the letter. Make the Grid Larger. Use software to re-draw the letter.
I chose to use one of my favourite typefaces at the minute, raisonne. I like the simplicity of it, nice curved, contemporary and clean modernist typeface.
The 'a' glyph is probably my favourite, reminding me very much of the adidas logo and typeface used for that. This is really simple to construct...
Here I have created the Two Shapes, The Circle and Line and brought them together to create the letterform...
Heres my attempt on the left and the actual typeface on the right.
Frankenstein Type (Task)
pick one of the words from the list;-
Lazy
choose 3 typefaces, disect and stick together to form a new typeface that resembles the word 'lazy'. I chose these three typeface for two reasons. The first being because I like them and the second because the word lazy instantly made me think of large, bold type, mainly lowercase (not sure why) maybe slightly angled...
This diagram just shows which areas I decided to take from which typeface. Left to right; Avenire LT Std, Calibri Bold, Cooper Black.
This is the initial shape that I got from the three merged typefaces. It looks terribly imbalanced so from here, I altered it slightly to get a more well weighted glyph...
This is looking a lot better now, fitting to the guidelines that I have set, but the counter in the middle still makes the whole letter look unbalanced, so i decided to modify this taking influence from the other typefaces...
Much happier with this, still a little off, but not a bad effort for now. can always clean it up at a later stage...
Did the same with the 'b' and ended up with this result. The b looks a little too low but it was frustrating me trying to fix this without it looking too small or too big. This is an okay result for now, I can revisit later, but overall, the typeface that is coming together is looking nice and clean.
Needs cleaning up, but this is how i'd progress...
