Canons & Grids
- Van De Graaf
a gridded page is like scaffolding on a building. It structures the elements . It helps with continuity and organisation.
Here I have applied the Van De Graf grid to a double page Indesign document.
Initially I added a guideline to te bottom of the page and top of the page. To find the middle of these two guides I have to click and drag the corner ruler section and drag this down to the top guide I have made. This now makes this section 'O' on the rulers.
I then need to click on the bottom guide and then click into this box on the top right and divide it by 2
( / 2) which moved the guide to the middle exactly. I then draw the bottom one back in and continue this process until there are 5 guides placed around the box...
I have now done the same vertically and multiplying the guides by 2 instead of dividing (*2). This splits the middle section into thirds.
Quick way of making a Grid
Window > Utilities>Scripts
Inside here, we then select samples, apple script then make grid...
Here we can alter the rows, columns, row gutter, column gutters and frame type if we want it fixed or unassigned to do whatever you want with it...
A Quicker Way of Making a Grid
Use this box tool to draw out a box where you want on the document. Before you let go, use the arrow keys to add rows and colums in both directions.
Once this has been achieved, you can add a stroke to the boxes.
