Why have you chosen to work with your creative partner? What are your aims?
I decided to work with Chris because I feel that his skill set is completely opposite to mine. He focuses more on illustrative pieces that can be applied across a range of different products. I’m much more clean cut in some aspects. I like to work on the concept and branding behind a brief and like to apply that to wider product range. I think by balancing these two skill sets together, we can get the best of both worlds.
What are your specific areas of creative interest in this brief?
Branding, Product/Packaging Design, Wider Product Ranges across both Print and Web, Experimenting with New Products, Stepping out of my comfort zone.
What specific design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?
Branding, Layout, Editorial, Wider Product Range, Print & Web. I intend to use them alongside Chris’s skills to create some sort of structure to the range of products. I will keep a consistent style running throughout the products and advertisement campaigns.
What specific non-design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?
I feel that I have good time management skills. I will try to use them to the best of my abilities. I am constantly making lists, so this will come in useful when realising between the both of us what needs to be done. I think together, we will be good at coming up with a solid structure based on the time schedule we have.
I will also try and plan ahead by booking printing slots or whatever may be deemed necessary, so we can make sure that everything I achieved that we want in the time scale.
I will also try and plan ahead by booking printing slots or whatever may be deemed necessary, so we can make sure that everything I achieved that we want in the time scale.
What will your specific roles be in the collaboration in relation to your brief?
I will more than likely be working more within the Concept, Brand, Identity, Product Range and Presentation Boards.
Chris will be working on the Advertisement Campaign; Layout for Print/ Web based Products. Product Packaging Design.
This is not set in stone, we will be heavily involved in all areas and try and keep a good balance throughout everything.
What will your individual responsibilities be in relation to your brief?
We’ll initially brainstorm together, then create our own separate design sheets, experimenting varying different approaches. We’ll then come back together and discuss these ideas in depth, before going away again and finalising the most successful idea. Once a solid idea is place we will then assign jobs both in research and practical sides.
We will split the research into sections such as, researching into statistical evidence that is needed, visual research, research into products and packaging.
We will then split the practical elements evenly. Most likely I’ll be working on the branding and identity, where Chris will be focussed on the packaging / poster design. We will then bring these elements together, and work on them together to get a final piece.
What will your joint responsibilities be?
Meeting Deadlines, Meeting up with each other frequently to share ideas and progress. Time management planning. Booking Print Slots and buying materials etc. Brainstorming / Idea generation. Also joint responsibilities within practical work and research.
Starting Point
Here is our initial plans which we come up with today. As you can see we have split the workload quite evenly between us both.
the first section is the research that we will have to undertake together as a partnership;
Research
Existing Products, Audience, Medicine, Legal Info for Perfume, Natural Chemicals associated with the chosen perfume Topics; Sex, Love, Fear & Elegance.
The middle section is primarily my focus area. I will be leading up all the actions for these following areas;
Brand & Identity
Brand & Identity, Corporate Typeface, Logo, Colour Scheme, Logo, Advertising
Chris will be mainly focussing on the other side of the project. as you can see in the thrid and final list;
Physical Product
Net, Packaging, Object, Usability, Stock, Advertising.
We will obviously also both be working closely together to share and create ideas. Once these two main elements have been researched and design ideas have been selected, we'll move forward and go on to clean everything up and photograph the product approproatly. Create a whole identity around the product.
